In the News | IMA Delivers 10,000 Meals on Wheels

02/24/10

IMA of Colorado, Inc., has been recognized by Volunteers of America for delivering 10,000 meals to local homebound elderly over the past eight years.  IMA of Colorado is part of The IMA Financial Group, Inc., a diversified financial services company specializing in insurance, asset and risk management with 450 employees and offices in six markets across the nation.

IMA has partnered with Volunteers of America to participate in the Meals on Wheels adopt-a-route program as of Feb. 1, 2002 and recently was honored by Volunteers of America for reaching this milestone, as well as delivering 10,000 meals.

“We saw an opportunity to take a little time out of our day and make a difference in the community,” said Peggy Sanborn, account executive at IMA of Colorado who is the program coordinator for the IMA Meals on Wheels team.  “This honor indicates how IMA balances work ethics and volunteering.  The team’s loyalty, reliability, and dedication reflects our commitment to the community and each other.”  Jim White, Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Volunteers of America, agreed as he said, “There are not words to thank IMA for their commitment and dedication to this program.  We are truly blessed.”

Meals on Wheels is a program run by Volunteers of America that delivers meals daily to citizens more than 60 years old who are primarily homebound and unable to shop or prepare meals for themselves.  IMA’s commitment revolves around a two-week rotating schedule that has a team of 20 volunteers delivering meals daily, Monday through Friday.  IMA’s dedicated team takes time out of their daily lunch breaks to deliver the meals, usually taking 45 minutes to an hour.

Volunteers of America depends on companies like IMA to deliver around 2,000 meals a day to their program participants.  The meals delivered provide the required daily nutritional intake for older adults who are at high nutritional risk, as the meals are low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

While the Meals on Wheels program specializes in delivering meals to the homebound elderly, the program offers additional programs, such as nutrition education, information, and providing networks to other available services to the homebound elderly.

IMA Purpose: To protect assets and make a difference.
